Le Comte Ory

Bavarian Radio Chorus
Munich, Germany

Take an Italian opera buffa, add new ingredients and refine it with a charmingly frivolous French frisson. Et voilà: The result is comic opera at its best. This happened in Paris in 1828, when Rossini composed his penultimate work for the lyric stage, Le Comte Ory. It is a brilliant comedy about the amorous adventures of Count Ory, including thunderstorm and drinking scenes, and a “thwarted” love trio.
